10 Beginner Tips Apex Legends For Season 13
1. Loot Fast
Apex Legends is all about fast paced fights and movement. If you’re just starting out one of the most common mistakes made is taking a stroll and looting anything and everything. To get better you need to get into more engagements, and you can’t do that if you’re busy looting for 18 minutes! So to improve quickly grab two weapons and ammo and start getting into fights.
2. Rotate Early
These next two tips work together with tip #1 – Here you want to rotate early, some legends like Valkyrie and Loba make early game looting quick and easy, allowing you and your team to get to a better position as quickly as possible. You want to play ring while taking into consideration where everyone else is going to rotate in from. This will give you an advantage so that you and your team can hold teams out of the ring and be better prepared for your next rotation.
3. Early fights
If you’re looking to rank up and gain RP, early fights can get you positioned point-wise to relax the rest of the game. With Season 13 ranked changes, positioning and early rotations are still paramount to one’s success, but if your squad can get a team wipe early game then that means less work for your mid-game! Ideally focusing on teams that are busy looting up or pre-occupied with another fight are the best options, but always be ready to rotate out.
4. Fast Fights
Don’t waste time on long drawn-out fights! If your team is engaging with another at a completely different POI at a distance, and neither can push effectively, just disengage and pick a better fight. It’s painfully common to have a teammate take a pot-shot at a team only to giveaway your position to surrounding teams making it easier for you guys to get shot in the back. Pick fights that you and your team can win quickly, ideally in less than a minute. If it takes you more than a minute to push onto that team’s location, it’s probably not worth it. Rotate and find a better fight.
5. Practice Makes Perfect
Apex does not have a great system in place that allows players to get a lot of time in game, with most matches lasting roughly 18 minutes, time to queue, loot, and rotate overall you won’t be able to get a lot of time in actual combat unless you have hours to spend. One way to get around this is to use the firing range, if you’ve got a buddy to load in with you, even better! Practice 1v1 with your friends and get familiar with weapon recoil. Spend a few minutes each time you get ready to play just practicing and warming up. You will see massive improvements just from this.
6. Hot Drop for Reps, Not for Ranked
Because Apex doesn’t have a way to just get into non-stop fights quickly, the next best option is to hot drop – while this is not recommended for Ranked, if you are playing pubs don’t be afraid to get those reps in by dropping hot. Putting yourself into stressful situations will make it easier to focus and maintain composure when you aren’t the one starting the engagement.
7. Learn your Legends
Another simple way to improve at Apex Legends is to know your legends! While it’s up for debate as to how many legends one should gain a good mastery with, at least being familiar with each legends abilities and cool-down timers can make or break some of your plays as you build your skills up. Don’t be afraid to try out legends you’d never play.
8. Master Movement
Apex Legends is a high skill ceiling game, this means that while any one can log in and point and shoot, there’s still a lot to master. From legend abilities, recoil, and randomization of ring and loot locations, you’ll constantly be on your toes. However, one of the most unique aspects that Apex brings is its movement technology, from tap-strafing to your simply slide jump knowing different movement techniques can up your gameplay making repositioning, flanking, and fights a lot easier.
9. Communication is King
Apex Legends at its core is a team-based game, a lot of people get a big head and think they can1v3 every fight, but honestly very few people have that skill set. Communicate with your team, even if it’s using the wide variety of pings. Letting your team know when you are attacking, repositioning, or looting can go a long way in building your success in Apex.
10. No-Fill for Mastery
Do you want to be one of those people who can 1v3 every fight? One way to build that skill set is to no fill. Choosing this in a pub lobby will put you in a match without teammates allowing you to get the reps in and get practice under pressure as discussed earlier in the guide. You can hot drop and make dangerous plays without putting your team in a bad spot. You can learn from those plays and be better poised to apply those plays in ranked or with a team. Definitely no fill every once and awhile, even if it’s just warming up to keep your skills sharp and get used to handling stacked situations!
